1 Kings 8:56
Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
When I was a child I used to sing a song … “When I am weary and I can’t sleep. I count my blessings instead of sheep; and I fall asleep counting my blessings.” With so much going on around us, sometimes we have so much on our minds or are in such anticipation of a break through that we are up all night and don’t know why. It is during those times that I take my mind off of everything that happened today or might happen tomorrow and just concentrate on all of the peace and comfort I have in Christ Jesus. And… I fall asleep counting my blessings. Good night.
Thank you Lord for your sweet peace and your sweet rest.

Psalm 142:4-7
I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
There will be many times that as we are walking with God and away from the world, that we are going to feel lonely and left out -- we are going to feel that no one understands or wants to be around us. If we are not careful, we may even begin to imagine persecution that really does not exist. These are the times when we must draw from our abiding hope in Christ Jesus; and remember that God is always near. His mercy ad grace will keep us.
Even when others forsake me and leave me alone, I have the peace and joy in knowing that you are always by my side -- leading and guiding. Thank you Lord.

Revelations 2:2-5
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
I don’t think many of us realize just how precious the gift of salvation and eternal life is. It is absolutely the most important part of our lives and should be guarded at all costs. We live raggedy lifestyles -- sometimes up, sometimes down, play with our religion. We put ourselves in situations that could compromise our relationship with God and lead us into sin. We do a few good things and constantly refer back to them as if those few good things are worthy of a life with God. But what God requires and deserves is a consistent lifestyle focused completely on Him and His Will. The Ephesians certainly had done many good things but then they fell away. God wants us to continue in our first love experience with Him when we were excited about our salvation and sought Him daily with our whole hearts. We rejoiced in His love constantly and longed to have a deeper relationship with Him. God never changes His love toward us and we should never change our love and affection for Him.
Dear Lord, thank you for this precious gift of salvation.

Psalm 27:5-6
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
I’ve heard many Christians state that the streets are so bad now that they just don’t come out of their houses unless it is absolutely necessary. But our light and the determiner of our destiny is the Lord. If we abide in Him our enemies are put under subjection and we are able to live a life free from fear whether we are on the streets of Chicago, Detroit or the jungles of Africa. “The gracious presence of God, His power, His promise, His readiness to hear prayer, the witness of His Spirit in the hearts of his people; these are the secret of his tabernacle, and in these the saints find cause for that holy security and peace of mind in which they dwell at ease.” (Henry) With God on our side, there is never a reason for us to live a fearful life. In the time of trouble just seek His tabernacle.
Dear Lord because it is in you I abide and can face each day undaunted and unafraid. Thank you for covering me.

John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Monday morning I got up, had great fellowship with the Lord and started on my way to work singing “I Call Him Faithful…” I decided to get off the bus and walk part of the way through this affluent Chicago community. I was so happy--what could go wrong? … and there it was … A big Chicago rat lying in the middle of the sidewalk.
Within a second, my whole demeanor had changed. I went from that happy “what could go wrong” saint of God to upset. My singing stopped and for the rest of the walk to work I was thinking about that rat. The devil certainly knows how to steal our joy, but we have to be better than that. Regardless of what is going on around us, no matter what pain or frustration we go through or how tough it gets, we can’t let the devil steal our joy. Our hope and faith in Christ keeps us strong and our joy comes from serving a risen Christ. All we have to do is keep our mind stayed on Jesus and not on the problems of the world.
Dear Lord, I thank You for Your joy that is able to transcend any situation. Keep my mind fixed on You and not on the problems of this world.

Psalm 38:16-1
For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me. For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me. For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
Nothing is more upsetting to a good man than the realization that when he sins, he angers God. He finds it difficult to forgive himself and that difficulty is exacerbated by the fact that he feels his loved ones pulling away from him. His enemies won’t let him forget his faults and are looking for ways to make his life even more difficult. But the assurance that we have is that if we humble ourselves and sincerely ask the Lord to forgive us, He will not only forgive us of our sins but will put up a wall of protection between us and our enemies. Surely our hope is in the Lord.
Dear Lord I am greatly sorry for my sins. Please forgive me and shield me from my enemies who rejoice in my sorrow. Thank you Jesus.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
We have to begin to pray for a Holy Ghost takeover in our communities. After just two days of school in Chicago, 5 children have been shot and two have died. One was killed the end of August. This is nothing but the devil and we have power through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to overcome the devil. We have to start exercising our authority as the situation in Chicago and other cities is simply out of control and not acceptable. We sing the songs -- now let’s pray the prayer.
Heavenly Father we ask that you cover our children with the blood of Your Son Jesus Christ and grant them safety as they walk the streets and even when they are in their homes. Take back the minds of our youth who are causing the problems and replace their stony hearts with the heart of God. Replace the fear of gang warfare with the fear of God. This we ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Romans 5:17-19
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
It has been proven by the righteousness of Jesus Christ to our salvation and the disobedience of Adam to our downfall, that one person can completely change the course of the world. Anthropologist Margaret Mead said "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." When the Lord gives us a work, most of the time we look for others to go with us and, if they do, that’s good; but if they don’t that’s still good. After all, it only takes one, with the strength and power of God to go forth and make a difference.
Lord let me not be afraid to go and make a mark in this world for You.

Matthew 11:28an
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Many of us started of this day feeling the heavy burdens of life, of sin and sorrow. We feel helpless to do anything about the problems or to resolve the issues that are facing us. But, as in all situations, Christ is the answer. He asks us to give Him our problems, our burdens, our sorrows and in return He will give us sweet peace.
Dear Lord I come to you with all of my trials and all of my burdens and lay them at your feet. I look forward to the balance of this day and the order and sweet peace you will restore in my life.

1 Thessalonians 2:2-4
But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention. For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
What we do in the name of Jesus must be acceptable to God. As much as God desires our praise and dedicated service, He will not accept it if it insincere and riddled with motives. When we praise God and do great works in His Name just to impress others or to get back at somebody, even if it inspire others, God is not pleased. God knows our heart and tries our reins. Our sole purpose on earth is to please God, not men.
Lord take a hold of me and try my reins. If my motives are unacceptable and from an insincere heart, change me.

Ephesians 4:1-3
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Tyra Banks was encouraging one of the “top” models to put their whole heart in to modeling and told one of the two finalists that “your calling is bigger than you.” If the world can understand that, why can’t we understand that when the Master places a calling on our lives and gives us our life’s assignment, it is not for us to put on the back burner or perform haphazardly. This is our God-given commission and it requires our personal commitment, dedication and sacrifice. The Saints of old counted their calling as more important than life itself. It is time for us to pull together, stop bickering and do the work that has been laid before us.
Dear Lord, I count it a blessing to have been chosen to do a mighty work for you. With all lowliness and meekness, let me walk worthy of my vocation.

Psalm 37:23-24
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
On Sunday morning it is easy for most of us to give over to the spirit of God and allow Him to lead us; but come Monday morning we grab the reins back from God and leave Him out of our decision making process. God wants and needs to be a part our total life experience If we seek His guidance every morning, He will put everything in order for us. He will show us what paths to take and our lives will be more peaceful, more joyful and more prosperous every day.
Lord, take the reins on this morning and lead me and guide me in your righteousness and truth.
